Your App’s Privacy Policy

Every app needs a privacy policy. Here’s what it’s for, where it should live, and what to include.

Written by Heather Clamp

Why do I need one?

Apple and Google both require every app to link to a publicly accessible privacy policy before it can be published. Users can view it from your app store listing and from within the app itself – it tells them what information the app collects and how it’s used.

Where should it live?

Your privacy policy should be hosted on your own website, at a URL you’ll provide as part of your Phase 1 checklist. Most customers add a dedicated page to their existing site.

What should it cover?

  • What personal information the app collects – for example, name and email address when a user registers

  • Any additional information collected for exclusive content verification, such as workplace postcode, employer, or proof of employment

  • How that information is used

  • Who processes the data – including Vicinity as your app platform provider

  • How long data is kept, and how users can request access or deletion

  • Contact details for privacy questions

We’ll help you get it right

After your Kick-Off Call we’ll send over suggested inclusions tailored to your app’s features, so you won’t be starting from a blank page. We do recommend having the final wording reviewed by whoever looks after data protection for your organisation.
